Student Leader Selection Process
Apply to be a Student Leader in Residence Life
Thank you for your interest in a Residence Life position for the upcoming 2024 - 2025 year. Few positions offer opportunities for personal growth and challenge through hands-on experience like the Residence Life positions. The rewards of positively impacting the lives of your peers are endless! The experiences, skills, and friendships you will develop in just one year will greatly impact you and those around you for your entire life.
Residence Life intends to focus on the education and holistic growth of the student by creating a safe, socially just, and environmentally responsible community. ResLife student staff plays a critical role in the implementation of our mission. Our student leader positions prepare you for being effective educators, social justice advocates, and community leaders.
As with any application and interview process, there are several requirements and deadlines that must be met. Please note the information listed below. This information is intended to serve as your guide throughout the process. Lastly, a complete application includes all information in the application filled out honestly and correctly, as well as thoughtful short essay answers. You are also required to submit a Letter of Exception if you will not meet the unit and/or GPA requirements at the time of application. Please be advised that incomplete applications will not be considered. Have fun and good luck!
Residence Life Student Leader Positions
Position Requirements
The minimum requirements for all positions are:
- Full-Time Enrollment; 12 units/semester if undergraduate student, 9 units/semester if graduate student
- 2.5 semester and cumulative G.P.A. if undergraduate student, 3.0 semester and cumulative G.P.A. if graduate student
- Applicants must have lived on campus at least one year or have comparable experience
- Applicants must be in good academic, financial, and judicial standing with the University and Housing & Residence Life
Lead Student Assistant (SA)
Lead Student Assistants, assist the Residence Life professional staff, residents and staff by co-advising student leadership councils, serving as mentors for other Student Leaders, and providing administrative support.

The Residence Sustainability Advisor (RSA) is a student staff member that works in Housing to promote awareness and plan events regarding energy consumption and conservation.

Resident Sustainability Advisor / Lead Student Assistant Application
Resident Advisor (RA)
There are over 40 Resident Advisors who live in the halls with residents. These amazing Student Leaders are committed to fostering a safe and welcoming environment for all residents. They enforce community standards, plan events, and respond to emergency situations as they arise. The RAs serve as mentors to various students in different communities within the residence halls, and connect residents to resources on campus.
