Continuing Students Housing Options

Planning Ahead for Fall 2025

Each spring, continuing students have the opportunity to apply to live in the residence halls for the next academic year. In order to be eligible to live in the residence halls, you must:

  • Have a positive student conduct record
  • Submit your online application and pay the $100 nonrefundable application fee. The $100 will be applied to the housing and meal plan charges, unless the application is cancelled where the application fee will be forfeited.
  • Have your 2024-2025 residence hall room & meal plan fees paid in full.

When to Apply

Housing is first come first serve. Continuing students will be able to start the application process starting on February 4, 2025 at 11am where you can complete almost all of the application except the final agreement page. The Housing Application will open to complete your submission for Continuing Students on February 20-21. In order to limit the number of students in the portal at once, Continuing Students with last names that start with A - L can submit their Housing Application starting on February 20, 2025, at 9am. Continuing Students with last names that start with M - Z can submit their Housing Application starting on February 21, 2025, at 9am. Continuing students that apply February 20 (A-L) and February 21 (M-Z) will be considered as applying on the first day, and will be time stamped, based on the time they submit their application. Housing is first come, first served, determined by the date and time the application is submitted.

Continuing students that receive a room selection time, will have the opportunity to select a room for the next academic year in College Creek, Creekview or Campus Apartments.

Room Selection & Wait List Notification

On March 27, you will be notified by email of your room selection time or wait list status. If you receive a room selection time, you will be able to see it in your myHousing portal. Please log in, select the Academic Year application you completed, and navigate to the Room Selection option.

If you were not one of the students who received a room selection timeslot, you will be on a wait list or guaranteed. Students on the wait list are not guaranteed a space in the residence halls until a guarantee of assignment or a room assignment email is received. When you are assigned from the wait list it may be to any space that becomes available.

Online Room Selection

Online room selection will start on April 9. Continuing students that receive a room selection time, you will have the opportunity to select a room for the next academic year in College Creek, Creekview or Campus Apartments. If you are unavailable during your room selection time, you can select a room after your assigned time at any time up until 8am on April 11 when the online room selection closes. After April 11, you will need to submit a Room Change Request found under Forms in yourmyHousing portal to move to another area if you no longer want the room you selected. If you don't go online to select a room and have a room selection time, the Housing Office will assign you to a room.

Same Room Request

All rooms are not automatically open to reassignment. If you wish to return to your same room next year, you may request to do so provided you currently live in College Creek, Creekview or Campus Apartments.

Continuing students who received a timeslot to select their room, will be able to request to return to their same room, once they receive their email notification on March 27.  The Room Renewal option can be found in the Application in the myHousing portal.

If you request to return to your same room and later change your mind, you can cancel your same room reservation and choose another room during your room selection time. Once you cancel your same room reservation, your old room is relinquished and available for others to select it as their new room.

Select Your Roommate or Fill an Apartment with Your Friends

Continuing students can make a roommate group from 2-6 members to fill an apartment or suite after room selection time and waitlist notifications are emailed on March 27. Groups can be coed and must be made up of all continuing students with room selection times.

How do roommate groups work? First, decide who will be the group leader. Pick your leader wisely! The group leader will create a group, name it and assign a group password. They will be responsible for the assignments during the room selection time. The leader will add people to the group using members' Humboldt ID numbers, or individuals can add themselves and friends to the group through their individual application process by using the group name and password. The leader of the group must assign group members to rooms, and assign themself last.

The group leader gets to use the best time assigned to any one person in their group. The leader can assign you to a room, but only you can cancel or change your room reservation once they have assigned you. If you change your mind, you will need to cancel your reservation and select a different room online up until 8am on April 11.

All Gender Option

All gender apartments are available in College Creek, Creekview, Cypress and Campus Apartments. All gender apartments can be comprised of any gender residents. Gender is not a consideration for placement for students that select to live in a gender inclusive bedroom. We offer a limited number of gender inclusive bedrooms across campus.

Meal Plans

Starting in Fall 2025, meal plans will be required in all university housing. However as an exception, current residents that live on campus for 2024-2025, will not be required to have a meal plan in Campus Apartments or College Creek for the rest of their time living on-campus. All other university housing areas will require meal plans.

Cancellation Information

Remember to read your license agreement carefully! The license agreement includes information on cancellation dates, fees and penalties. There is a $100 nonrefundable application fee due when you submit your application. The $100 nonrefundable application fee will be applied to your housing charges due in the fall.

Students who wish to cancel their request to live on-campus must notify the Housing Office by canceling through their myHousing portal or by email of this decision by July 18, 2025. Notifying any other university office does not satisfy your obligation to notify Housing & Residence Life. Such requests that are received by July 18 will be honored; all cancellations will forfeit the nonrefundable application fee of $100. The deadline for canceling your contract without penalties is July 18. Beginning July 19, 2025, requests to cancel will be honored; however, these requests will forfeit the $100 nonrefundable application fee, be charged a $200 cancellation fee and charged a prorated daily penalty fee for each day of notice that is less than the required 30 days.

FAQs

  • The $100 housing application fee is NOT an additional cost to students. It is treated as an initial deposit, and is credited towards housing and meal plan charges unless the application is canceled.
  • Why charge a housing application fee? It is really all about better serving students who choose to live in campus housing. The application fee allows us to better predict how many students truly intend to live in campus housing, rather than holding spots for students who likely will not.
  • Cal Poly Humboldt previously required a housing application fee, but halted the requirement during COVID. Last year, we saw growth in students anxious to know earlier in the process whether they would have a room on campus, and the lack of the fee made it difficult to determine which applicants for housing were most likely to actually attend.
  • The application fee helps us to ensure that those students who most want and need campus housing have access to it earlier in the assignment process.
  • We have evaluated our housing availability and will be able to accommodate all students in campus housing who apply for housing in a timely manner, as well as our continuing students who desire to live in campus housing in the 25-26 academic year.
