Earth Week Every Week

Students at Cal Poly Humboldt demonstrate and participate in sustainability efforts year round which shows their commitment to making  Earth Week Every Week. One great example of this is through continuing this commitment into life after graduation, via the Graduation Pledge. Furthermore, students consistently plan events, activities, collaborate across campus, and make a daily habit of environmental responsibility and allyship, among other methods. 

During the official time of Earth Week every April, students utilize this platform to reconvene and further affirm these values. See events and activities below.

Before Earth Week Officially Starts

Junk Journaling

  • Thursday, 04/16/26, 4pm - 6pm, Location: Makerspace at CPH Library

  • Description: Join us in finding repurpose of materials and integration of 'junk' to create an art piece. Meeting in the Makerspace on the second floor of the library at 4-6 PM on Thursday, April 16th! 'Junk' Provided and 'Junk' Welcomed. Make time for you, your art, and your planet!

2026 Cannabis & Environmental Stewardship Symposium

  • Description: The 3rd Annual Cannabis & Environmental Stewardship Symposium is a student organized annual event designed to bring together farmers, researchers, cultural leaders, restorationists and agency representatives to collaborate on equitable solutions to support small farms and promote environmental stewardship. Through short presentations, panel discussions and networking opportunities the symposium provides a unique opportunity for a diverse group of stakeholders to work together on creating more resilient watersheds and communities. Preferential Carpool Parking Promotion

  • Monday- Friday, 04/20/26- 05/01/26 7am -11am, Location:  Carpool Parking spaces in the G11 parking lot, Parking kiosk

  • Description: Between April 20 and May 1 get preferential parking on campus if you have one or more passengers in your car! Stop by the drive-up window at the Parking kiosk on Rossow St between 7am and 11am, show your Humboldt General or Staff parking permit, and receive a Carpool Preferential Parking Permit for the day, allowing you to park in the designated Carpool Parking spaces in the G11 parking lot!   • Description: Please join Green Campus on the first day of Earth Week in "Weighing the Waste" at the J dining Hall. Campus Swap Meet

Plant Bingo

  • Description: Plants are cool, and Bingo is fun! Come enjoy a bit of time playing Bingo at the Library while celebrating the sustainability of plants as friends and food! Plants purify the air, reduce carbon footprints, and produce local, renewable food. They also support biodiversity, reduce waste through composting, and decrease dependence on industrial agriculture. They keep us company, entertain us with their whimsy and bring a bit of the natural world into our homes. Celebrate your plant friends and win plant prizes! 

Sustainability Film Series Presents: Climate Control

  • Description: Join us for the Screening of Climate Control, an award-winning short film by Sarah Lasley, Associate Professor in the Department of Art + Film. Made in collaboration with film students, Climate Control looks at generational responses to the climate crisis and A.I. through an absurdist lens. Producer Nicola Waugh will lead a Q&A following the film.

Sustainability Trivia Night

  • Tuesday 04/21/26, 6:00pm - 7:30pm, Location: JGC Recreation Room

  • Description: Students are invited to join a sustainability trivia night, where they can compete in either a team or as an individual (Jeopardy format for teams, Kahoot for individuals). Throughout the course of the night, there will be multiple giveaways including plants, plant kits, and reusable water bottles to winning teams. For the individual Kahoot, there will be a grand prize of camping and hiking gear for trivia winners. Come and join us for a night of Sustainability trivia games and enjoy pizza and refreshments.

  • Description: Join Green Campus at this tabling event in exploring different student leadership groups and grab a free plant from the Student Activities Center. Food Sovereignty Lab Short Film Screenings

  • Description: Learn about the work of the Rou Dalagurr Food Sovereignty Lab & Traditional Ecological Knowledges Institute! What's in our Waste?

  • Description: This interactive event will engage students in hands-on sustainability as part of Earth Week by conducting a guided waste audit. Participants will examine discarded materials from Cypress residence hall waste streams to better understand campus consumption patterns, identify common sorting mistakes, and practice proper waste separation. 

Hinarr Hu Moulik (HHM) All-Abilities Group Bike Ride

  • Description: Join us for an all-abilities group bicycle ride along the Humboldt Bay Trail from HHM to the Marsh! No bike? No problem! Free use of a bikeshare bike for those without one! The ride starts and ends at the HHM bike shed.

  • Description: Gather in a peaceful circle near the forest for a gentle, heart-centered experience of connection with the living Earth. Through guided grounding practices, a brief gratitude discussion, and a soothing guided meditation, you’ll be invited to feel the support of the Earth beneath your body, the quiet wisdom of the trees, and the subtle energy of the Earth energy around you. As we sit together in reverence for the land, this experience is designed to calm the nervous system, deepen your sense of belonging to place, and cultivate feelings of groundedness, peace, and gratitude. Campus Pollinator Walking Tour

Film Screening: Sequoias of the Sea with Surfrider Humboldt

Below the surface, our bull kelp forests provide the foundation for life on the North Coast, but they are in crisis. Join Surfrider Foundation Humboldt Chapter and our partners for a special screening of the award-winning documentary, “Sequoias of the Sea.” Over the last decade, we’ve lost nearly 95% of our local kelp forests. This film moves past the headlines to follow the scientists, Indigenous leaders, and fishermen who are working underwater to bring these ecosystems back from the brink. It’s a story of resilience, cultural stewardship, and community action. After the film, stick around for a conversation about what’s happening in our local waters and how we can help.

  • Description: Please join the Cal Poly Humboldt Sustainability Office, Center for Community Based Learning, and the Environmental Studies department for the fourth annual Sustainability Mixer at Septentrio Winery Friday April 24th from 4-6pm in celebration of Earth Week. All guests will receive one free drink ticket. This will be a low key networking event open to all Cal Poly Humboldt students, staff and faculty, and a variety of selected community partners. The goal of this event is to celebrate our shared sustainability accomplishments, to forge new connections in an informal setting, and to mix/mingle/discuss future musings and opportunities for our work. Further, it will be an opportunity for campus folx to network with local community organizations that are actively doing work in our region related to sustainability, and to make connections for internships, volunteer and employment opportunities. We'll also announce our Sustainability Champion Award Winners around 5:30pm.

Women's Environmental Justice Conference: Native Women and Western Systems of Education

  • Description: The conference is being co-organized with and from NAS, the FSL, 7th Generation Fund, and A.S. There will focus on three core areas: 1.The challenges and realities Native women face within institutional academic systems 2. Community-rooted models of education grounded in Indigenous knowledge, land-based practices, and intergenerational teachings, 3. Addressing ways to move forward both within and beyond Western systems of education, stressing this movement must begin with addressing the youth.

Spring 2022 

Earth Week is coming up! This year it will fall from April 18th through the 22nd. Cal Poly Humboldt has traditionally led an Earth Week Every Week campaign to celebrate with events, activities, and much more. The EWEW committee this year is composed of representatives from Associated Students, CCAT, WRRAP, and Green Campus. With the Social Justice Summit, Food SummitDecolonizing Economics Summit, and other campaigns going on around Earth Week it has been decided that the EWEW committee will support these events rather than creating Earth Week specific plans. People who are interested in contributing activities can attend a committee meeting via Zoom on Thursdays at 4:30PM. Additional questions can be sent to the committee chair at zv3@humboldt.edu
