Andrea Alstone
Energy Planner & Analyst
Andrea joined the Office of Sustainability, Energy, and Grounds as Energy Planner & Analyst in 2017. In this role she monitors campus energy use, works to find ways to reduce it, and helps in planning for a more sustainable energy future. Andrea is an all around energy nerd. She has worked at Redwood Coast Energy Authority, helping to launch Humboldt County’s Community Choice Energy program, at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, developing techno-economic assessments of the impact of energy efficiency standards on lighting products, at the Schatz Energy Research Center, researching a variety of local energy issues, and at UC Santa Barbara as part of the high energy physics collaboration went on to experimentally verify the existence of the Higgs Boson. Andrea holds an M.S. in Environmental Systems (Environmental Resources Engineering emphasis) from Humboldt and a B.S. in Physics from UC Santa Barbara. When she’s not thinking about energy, Andrea can often be found elbow deep in wool, either spinning, dyeing, or knitting it.
