Fee Information

The CSU makes every effort to keep student costs to a minimum. Fees listed in published schedules or student accounts may need to be increased when public funding is inadequate. Therefore, CSU must reserve the right, even after fees are initially charged or initial fee payments are made, to increase or modify any listed fees.  All listed fees, other than mandatory systemwide fees, are subject to change without notice, until the date when instruction for a particular semester or quarter has begun. All CSU listed fees should be regarded as "estimates" that are subject to change upon approval by The Board of Trustees, the Chancellor, or the Presidents, as appropriate. Changes in mandatory systemwide fees will be made in accordance with the requirements of the Working Families Student Fee Transparency and Accountability Act (Sections 66028 - 66028.6 of the Education Code).

For more information about the multi-year (2023-29) tuition increase, please visit the California State University website.

Tuition Fee

Systemwide mandatory tuition and other fees that must be paid to apply to, enroll in, or attend the university, or to pay the full cost of instruction required of some students by statute (e.g. tuition fee, non-resident tuition fee, and business professional program fee). The California State University Board of Trustees will establish, adjust, and oversee systemwide tuition.

Mandatory Campus-Based Fees (required for all students)

Campus-based mandatory fees must be paid to apply, enroll in, or attend the University every semester for all students. These fees are comprised of the following:

  • Material, Services, and Facilities Fee
    • This fee supports supplemental instruction material above the basic classroom level.  It provides a greater learning experience for students.
  • Instructionally Related Activities (IRA)
    • The IRA fee is charged to students as one fee, but is distributed in the following manner:
  • Student Body Association Fee (ASB)
    • This fee supports associated student body organizations established for the purpose of providing essential activities closely related to, but not normally included as a part of the regular instructional program.  These are student-run organizations that operate extra-curricular activities such as student government, student publications, club sports, cultural programs, and many other student activities related to the overall educational mission of the campus.
  • Campus Union Fee
  • Health Facilities Fee
    • The Health Facilities Fee is used to support the leasing and construction of the student health center facility.
  • Health Services Fee
    • The Health Services Fee is a mandatory campus-based fee initiated by the student body to support the operation of on-campus health and counseling services. This service is available and provided for all students even if they have private health insurance.
  • Student Involvement & Representation Fee (optional)
    • The Student Involvement and Representation Fee (SIRF) is a $2 contribution that ensures that CSU students have a say on tuition, financial aid, student services, course availability, and academic advising. Your elected student leaders oversee involvement and representation dollars through the California State Student Association (CSSA).  CSSA is the official student voice at the university system, state, and federal levels.
