A.S. Therapy Dog International MOU

This Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) outlines the agreement between the Associated Students of Cal Poly Humboldt (A.S.) and Therapy Dogs International (TDI). If you are interested in collaborating with A.S. on an event, please review the following guidelines carefully.

The department requesting the use of the MOU is responsible for:

  1. Providing clear guidelines for its therapy dog program and assigning a staff member to oversee it. This staff member should accompany dog/handler teams during visits. If that is not possible, the facility should specify the areas available for visitation.
  2. Implementing a policy to protect dog/handler teams from potential germs. Disinfectant wipes should be supplied by the facility, and handlers should use them, with patients also disinfecting their hands before petting the dog.
  3. Scheduling visits in advance with TDI, adhering to the agreed-upon schedule and canceling with sufficient notice if a visit cannot proceed.
  4. Preparing to provide updates on the handler’s work as requested by TDI. Handlers will submit a report after three months, and TDI may reach out for further feedback on volunteer activities.
  5. Verifying that each handler’s TDI credentials and health records are up to date before each visit.

To maintain program standards, only TDI-certified handlers should conduct therapy dog visits.

Please note that failure to comply with these guidelines may result in the suspension or discontinuation of therapy dog visits for your department’s events. Once you have reviewed this MOU, you may proceed with scheduling your event through 25 Live
