PEACH: Restoring Humboldt Bay

The Humboldt Bay Harbor District is launching the Program to Eliminate Abandoned Creosote Piles (PEACH) to remove toxic, abandoned dock pilings and restore marine habitat.

We’re seeking Cal Poly Humboldt interns to help with research, mapping, and field verification. Projects can be tailored to student skills and interests, with supervision and hands-on experience provided.

What is CCAT

The Campus Center for Appropriate Technology (CCAT) is a student-managed, student-funded demonstration home for sustainable living on the Cal Poly Humboldt campus in Arcata, California. Operated by three student co-directors and their staff for one-year terms, CCAT functions as part of a registered non-profit. Guided by the ethic of “education by example,” CCAT offers tours, workshops, and hands-on opportunities for students and the community.

USAISR Engineering / Computer Science Graduate Student Internship

As an ORISE participant, you will join a community of scientists, engineers, and researchers in an effort to develop medical
automation research solutions. You will support various engineering and computer science aspects of the research projects

As an Applied Vision Intern at the Autodesk Robotics Lab, you'll build cutting-edge applications integrating deep learning-based perception and 3D Computer Vision. We are a team of researchers, engineers, and industry domain experts working on projects that range from reinforcement learning, deep learning, computer vision, motion planning, simulation, human-robot cooperation and more for robotic applications in manufacturing and construction.

Dune Ecosystem Restoration Team

Add gloves, shovels, and brush axes to human hands, and you have the strongest dune restoration tool around. You can make a difference in the ecosystem, one invasive plant removal at a time. Within months of initially removing invasive plants, volunteers witness native plants re-sprouting on their own. No experience is necessary. We will have snacks and tools to share. No need to reserve a spot, meet us at the specified locations a few minutes before 10 am. Training, camaraderie, and beautiful scenery are provided. 

 

 

DERT meets two times a month:
Every second Saturday of the month from 10 am to 1 pm
Every third Sunday of the month from 10 am to 1 pm

Applications are open for the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation’s Fall 2025 Wildlife Leadership Awards, $5,000 scholarships plus a one-year RMEF membership for undergraduate juniors and seniors in wildlife-related natural resource programs. Switzer Environmental Fellowships

The Switzer Foundation will soon be accepting applications for 2026 Switzer Environmental Fellowships! Switzer Fellowships are given to graduate students in New England and California who demonstrate outstanding leadership potential and are committed to a career in environmental improvement.

The Switzer Fellowship includes:
A one-year $17,000 unrestricted cash award;
Two multi-day leadership training and cohort-building retreats;
Access to other grant programs and career support; and Engagement with the Switzer Network, an active community of 700+ environmental leaders in the U.S. and around the world.
Switzer Fellows bring a variety of backgrounds and life experiences to their work. Students of color, first-generation college and graduate students, and students from groups traditionally underrepresented in environmental graduate programs are strongly encouraged to apply.

Graduate Programs News

Congratulations to Graduate students Angelina Garcia and Adam Canter  who were selected for a competitive USDA-ARS NextGen Fellowship. Angelina will examine how rangeland invasive species management affects soil properties and plant traits. Adam will study how invasive species management and small-scale control burns can be used to restore species culturally in coastal prairies important to Wiyot people.
