Jessica Elaine Sepulveda

Jessica Elaine Sepulveda, Biology, 2017, recently got this amazing opportunity to work in startup using stem cell technology to reduce humans impact on the environment. Unlike most stem cell technology that focuses on medicine, VitroLabs Inc goal is to reduce our ecological footprint by making ethical leather in a lab. Her job entails making induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), differentiating our stem cells into skin cell and generating leather. By producing leather in a lab from iPSCs we can eliminate the need for cow hides will still supplying the market with this particular textile. She finds her work satisfying and is able to fulfill her graduation pledge in several ways: our product is ethical & ecological.

Suzan is living in the Sierra Nevada foothills, practicing forestry and growing her career as a forester. 

Jason Sikorski

Environmental Science & Management, 2017

After graduating from Humboldt State University, Jason Sikorski, Environmental Science & Management, 2017, stayed local and worked at Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park as a senior maintenance aid building ADA hiking trails in Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park for one season. Afterward he moved back to his hometown in Orange County and was hired by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services as an Environmental Health Technician in Laguna Niguel, California.

James A Seward, Oceanography, 2016, was an environmental services intern for California Coastal Conservancy from July 2017 to January 2018. He is currently a technician with the Central & Northern California Ocean Observing System (CeNCOOS).

Dylan Karl

Wildlife, 2016

Dylan Karl, Wildlife, 2016, completed two years of service as a Peace Corps environment volunteer in Guyana, South America. Karl volunteered as a community conservation promotor. Now that his service is complete, he is looking into going to Bowling Green State University for its Leisure and Tourism program.

Julia Clark, 2015 Environmental Science & Management, was elected to the board of directors of the Society for Conservation GIS, a non-profit organization that assists conservationists worldwide in using geographic information systems through communication, networking, scholarships, and training.

Mary Colleen "MC" Hannon

MC graduated in 2015 with a double major in Marine Biology and Zoology. During her time at Humboldt State, she was the captain of the Women's Ultimate Disc club and worked at the University Center Information Desk. On March 8th, 2023 MC successfully defended her Ph.D. dissertation at Texas A&M University at Galveston with a study describing the reproductive biology of a local polychaete worm (Family Nereididae). She has accepted a postdoc position at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History in Washington, DC where she will continue her research looking into polychaete vision in the open water column.
