Redwood Area Academic Literacy Initiative

RAALI is designed to improve academic literacy skills in science, mathematics, and history among high school students in the six county Northcoast region. Humboldt and Sonoma State Universities in cooperation with Konocti Unified School District manage the project.

RAALI May Conference Saturday, May 16, 2009
This one-day conference celebrated the academic literacy work done in our region over the last several years. RAALI Teaching Fellows presented academic literacy work that they did with their students and the RAALI team shared highlights from the RAALI research thus far.

RAALI Summer 2008 Institutes
The RAALI Summer Institutes were held June 23-27 at Vichy Springs Resort in Ukiah. The Invitation and Application are below.

RAALI Conference May 19, 2008 at Fortuna River Lodge
A keynote presentation was given by Dr. Dana Grisham, a national leader in academic literacy, on using cognate strategy instruction to improve academic literacy in the content areas. Continuing RAALI Teaching and Student Teaching Fellows presented their academic year work.

RAALI Summer Institutes
RAALI held a summer institute July 9 to 13 at Cal Poly Humboldt. We also held an invitational RAALI Advanced Institute concurrently.

RAALI Conference May 18, 2007 in Ukiah
The conference showcased academic literacy projects created and implemented by RAALI Teaching Fellows, provided an introduction to RAALI, and explored strategies to enhance students' academic literacy skills. The conference was held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Ukiah Conference Center.

RAALI Workshops at the Education Encounter March 2, 2007
RAALI presented two workshops at the Education Encounter. These workshops were designed to provide an overview of RAALI work in the region and demonstrate a sample of academic literacy approaches.
