Outdoor Adventures is hosting pool time for kayakers looking for a place to hone their roll!

Select the date and time for your preferred 2-hour session and enjoy the use of the Cal Poly Humboldt pool under supervision from our instructors and lifeguards. This is not an instructional or "Learn to Roll" course, but our guides will be on site to offer tips and advice while you practice. If you are a beginner roller who would like personalized instruction, please see our Introduction to Kayak Rolling course.

Participants are welcome to bring their own boats and equipment or can rent equipment from us for an extra fee ($20 for Cal Poly Humboldt Students, $26 for all others). All personal equipment will be checked before being allowed in the pool - kayaks must be clean of dirt, sand, or debris and personal flotation devices must be US Coast Guard approved. All participants must wear a helmet while in the pool.

For each date this class is offered, there is an early class (3 - 5PM) and a late class (5 - 7PM). We highly recommend that you only sign up for one session at a time - kayak rolling can be tiring to learn. Please make sure you select the correct time and date for the session you want to sign up for. Contact our office if you have any problems getting into the session you want.

Vessel: This activity uses a wide variety of sit-inside river kayaks. Requires the ability to sit upright in a tight cockpit with a supported backrest and use a paddle. This class can be demanding of upper body strength, coordination, and balance. Participants are expected to be able to propel themselves in a kayak and balance in the boat. Participants are welcome to bring and use their own equipment pending a safety check from our guides. All participants must wear a personal floatation device and a helmet while in the pool.

Facility: The Cal Poly Humboldt Pool is an ADA accessible facility. There are locker rooms with storage options, showers, and restrooms. Please bring your own lock if you wish to use a locker - lockers may only be used during the course of the event. The pool has a shallow and a deep end which are both utilized in the class. There are railings entering the pool as well as ladders. The floor around the pool and in the locker areas can become wet and slippery and caution must always be exercised while in the facility.

Persons who wish to request accessibility-related accommodations should contact Outdoor Adventures at (707) 826-3357, or email at OutdoorAdventures@humboldt.edu as soon as possible. Some accommodations may take up to several weeks to arrange.
