Equipment Rentals

Rental & Pick Up

Pick up gear at the Campus Recreation Office in the Recreation & Wellness Center on the Cal Poly Humboldt Campus or at the Humboldt Bay Aquatic Center on the Eureka waterfront.

  • Most of our outdoor recreation gear, such as camping, backpacking, surfing, inflatable and river kayaks, snowshoes, and more is rented and picked up at Campus Recreation Outdoor Adventure office on the campus of Cal Poly Humboldt at the Recreation & Wellness Center Lobby. See Campus Map or Google Map for directions. Reservations can be made in person by calling 707-826-3357 or emailing Outdoor Adventures at OutdoorAdventures@humboldt.edu
  • Aquatic gear, such as canoes, kayaks, stand up paddleboards, and sailboats for the experienced sailors, may be picked up at the Humboldt Bay Aquatic Center on the Eureka waterfront (Google Map. Call 707-443-4222 or email the Aquatic Center to coordinate your pickup)

Policies

  • Reservations are encouraged as gear is rented on a first-come, first-served basis
  • Renters are responsible for loading, tying down, and transporting the rental gear
  • Rental fees must be paid at the time of pick up.
  • Deposits are required for all rentals.
  • Some aquatic gear may require approval.

  • Children under 16 years old must be accompanied by an adult.
  • Minors under the age of 18 must have a parent or guardians signature on their rental waiver.
  • Aquatic rentals: All renters should know how to tread water while wearing a life jacket.
  • Aquatic rentals: Rental limits are based on forecast weather conditions and tides.

Aquatic Gear Rentals

We've got kayaks, canoes and stand up paddle boards - Come play on the water!

Launch from the Humboldt Bay Aquatic Center dock and set off on an adventure along the shores of Humboldt Bay. Our knowledgeable staff will provide a brief paddle and safety talk and can also set up a private lesson for novice paddlers or the intermediate and advanced participant. Have friends or a special group looking for an adventure? Want to explore a particular trail system or waterway but need us to lead the way?   • Wetsuit (Participating in our rental program, you may get wet. Bringing a swimsuit to wear under the included wetsuit is a great way to prepare for your time on Humboldt Bay)

Rig and Rent Sailing Program

Are you an experienced sailor looking to rent one of our sailboats? Our Rig-to-Rent program allows you to display your sailing competency to an instructor and be checked off to rent one of our Laser dinghies or Catalina Coronado-15s. The Rig-to-Rent program involves passing a written test, demonstrating proper rigging skills while setting up the boat, and then performing a series of basic sailing maneuvers on the water to finish your check off process. All Rig-to-Rents and sailing rentals must be scheduled ahead of time. Please call us at (707) 443-4222 or email us at OutdoorAdventures@humboldt.edu to set up your appointment.

Aquatic Equipment Rentals for Off-Site Locations

Not feeling like launching off our dock? Would you like to join a group of friends paddling up at the lagoons and don’t have your own gear? Want to take a kayak, canoe or stand up paddleboard on your next camping trip?  We offer off-site rentals to help you get out there and explore! Vehicles must be equipped with functional rack systems for transport of kayaks, canoes, surf and/or paddleboards.
