Introduction to Surfing

Cost: $60 Cal Poly Humboldt Student, $200 General

Location: Moonstone Beach

Age: 18+

 

This course offers students the opportunity to safely learn and enjoy the sport of surfing! Designed for the individual having little to no surfing experience, this course focuses on water safety, surf etiquette, ocean awareness, surfboard handling and technique. Our qualified instructors will show you the basics of surfing on the beautiful Humboldt coastline and will have you carving waves in no time!

 

NOTE: There is a required pre-trip meeting for this course at the Outdoor Adventures office to get you fitted to your gear. Please check the dates and times and make sure you can attend the meeting for your selected trip. If you are unable to attend, please contact us.

 

Trip Option 1 - Monday, April 21, 2025 - 5:00PM - 7:00PM

Trip Option 2 - Monday, April 28, 2025 - 5:00PM - 7:00PM

 

Included in Program Fee: Transportation to and from campus, high quality on-shore instruction, on-water assistance from highly trained and qualified surf instructors/lifeguards, 5mm hooded surf wetsuit, booties, and surfboard/leash.

Transportation: Transportation is included in this course. Accessible transportation options available upon request with advanced notice. Participants will be meeting at Cal Poly Humboldt Library Circle. If you wish to arrive at Moonstone independently, please call our office after registration.

Terrain: The parking lot at Moonstone Beach is uneven and unpaved. The trail to the beach is uneven on sandy and rocky terrain. 

Vessels/Equipment: Surf boards are foam top and 8-10 feet. Participants must wear a wetsuit and booties during the course. You will be sized to your equipment at your pre-trip meeting.

Mobility: Surfing requires the ability to paddle laying flat on your stomach. Participants must know how to and be able to swim independently.
