Introduction to C-15 Sailing

Learn the basics of sailing a Coronado 15 on Humboldt Bay!

 

A Coronado 15 (or C-15) is a 15 foot long dinghy sailboat that is the perfect boat to learn the basics of sailing. Come join us to learn about sailing safety, using a boat equipped with a sail and jib, steering and navigating the bay, and other helpful sailing knowledge.

 

This course includes an on-land evening instruction & a full day class that will give you the knowledge & confidence to set you up for more sailing fun in the future! Come get a chance to experience the Humboldt Bay like never before, with the power of the wind!

 

NOTE: There is a required pre-trip meeting for this course at the Humboldt Bay Aquatic Center to give you trip information, get sized for gear, and begin instruction. Please check the dates and times and make sure you can attend the meeting for your selected trip. If you are unable to attend, please contact us.

 

Trip Option 1 - Friday, April 18, 2025 - 5:00PM - 7:00PM

Trip Option 2 - Friday, May 23, 2025 - 5:00PM - 7:00PM

 

Included in Program Fee: On-land & on-water instruction from an official US Sailing Instructor, instructional information packet, all required sailing equipment, personal gear including: wetsuit, splash jacket, booties, personal flotation device (lifejacket), & helmet.

Equipment: For sailing programs all participants are required to wear a wetsuit, booties/ water shoes, a helmet, and life jacket. These items are required for safety of the participants and reducing risk of injury or incident.

Vessel: This program uses the Coronado 15 (C-15) sailboat. This boat’s cockpit is 5.7' wide at the beam (widest part of the hull) with 8.5’ of usable length. For our programs typically 3 - 4 people are placed in each boat. In order to sail this vessel it will require maneuvering around the boom during tacking & gybing, which involves kneeling in the center cockpit and being aware of moving parts.

Transportation: Transportation is not provided for this activity. All participants will meet at the Humboldt Bay Aquatic Center, located at 921 Waterfront Drive, Eureka CA
