    Intro to Laser Sailing

    Cost: $75 for Cal Poly Humboldt students, $250 for community members

    This course prepares sailors for the complexities involved in sailing one of the most popular dinghies in the world on our beautiful bay. In this class you will learn about sailing safety, reading wind and water, and how to harness the power of the wind.This course includes an on-land evening instruction & a full day class that will give you the knowledge & confidence to set you up for more sailing fun in the future! You will learn how to rig a Laser and how to sail off of our dock while receiving instruction from our experienced sailors. This is a great introductory class for someone who has no experience and for experienced sailors looking for a refresher!

    Pre-Trip: There is a mandatory pre-trip for this event. Check your registration for the date and time of the meeting.

    <p><strong>Equipment: </strong>For sailing programs all participants are required to wear a wetsuit, booties/ water shoes, a helmet, and life jacket. These items are required for safety of the participants and reducing risk of injury or incident.</p><p><strong>Vessel:</strong> This program uses the Laser sailboat. This boat’s cockpit is narrow with minimal room. For our programs typically 1 - 2 people are placed in each boat. In order to sail this vessel it will require maneuvering around the boom during tacking &amp; gybing, which involves kneeling in the center cockpit and being aware of moving parts.</p><p><strong>Transportation: </strong>Transportation is not provided for this activity. All participants will meet at the Humboldt Bay Aquatic Center, located at 921 Waterfront Drive, Eureka CA</p><p><strong>Facility: </strong>The Humboldt Bay Aquatic Center is equipped with an ADA compliant front door and an elevator. The facility has restrooms and locker rooms with showers. Please note if you would like to use a locker, the lockers are not equipped with locks but you are welcome to bring your own. There is a boat ramp that leads to our floating dock which changes grade based on the tide. All other walkways around the facility are flat and paved.</p>
