Are you a recreational kayaker looking to improve your skills in the water? This is the course for you!

This class is a perfect extension of our Introduction to Sea Kayaking course, as well as a great opportunity for already experienced kayakers to get more information from our highly skilled instructors. Our ACA certified guides will either fit you to one of our sea kayaks or can assist you in personal equipment.

Launching from the Humboldt Bay Aquatic Center, we will spend our paddle time learning and perfecting our paddle strokes and bracing, gaining confidence in pushing our boats and ourselves to our limits, and potentially even move onto more advanced skills such as wet-exits, T-rescues (buddy rescues), and self-rescues.

Included in Program Fee: Highly certified and experienced instructors providing on-land and on-water instruction and safety and all equipment needed for kayaking (kayak, paddle, personal flotation device, wetsuit, booties, splash top, spray skirt, etc.).

This class is not intended for those who have little to no experience in sit-inside sea kayaks. For classes aimed at full beginners, please see our Introduction to Sea Kayaking and Introduction to Kayaking on the Humboldt Bay courses.

Equipment: For aquatic programs all participants are required to wear a wetsuit, booties/ water shoes, and life jacket. These items are required for safety of the participants and reducing risk of injury or incident.

Vessel: This activity uses a wide variety of sit-inside sea kayaks. Requires the ability to sit upright in a tight cockpit with a supported backrest and use a paddle. This class may afford the option for learning self-rescues, which can be demanding of upper body strength, coordination, and balance. All experiences are "Challenge by choice" and are not necessary to participate in the activity as a whole.

Transportation: Transportation is not provided for this activity. All participants will meet at the Humboldt Bay Aquatic Center, located at 921 Waterfront Drive, Eureka CA.

Facility: The Humboldt Bay Aquatic Center is equipped with an ADA compliant front door and an elevator. The facility has restrooms and locker rooms with showers. Please note if you would like to use a locker, the lockers are not equipped with locks, but you are welcome to bring your own. There is a boat ramp that leads to our floating dock which changes grade based on the tide. All other walkways around the facility are flat and paved.
