This program allows participants to discover the excitement of sailing a small vessel as you begin using sailing lingo and gain an understanding of water safety and boating basics. This is an introductory sailing course combined with the joys of a guided bay tour. Enjoy the excitement of sailing a Coronado 15 sailboat and find yourself awed with the beauty of Humboldt Bay.

Included in Program Fee: On-land & on-water instruction from our experienced instructors, all required sailing equipment, personal gear including: wetsuit, splash jacket, booties, personal flotation device (lifejacket), & helmet.

This course is designed to offer a taste of the sailing experience. If you are looking for courses designed to get you sailing on your own, please view our other Introduction to Sailing courses.

Equipment: For sailing programs all participants are required to wear a wetsuit, booties/ water shoes, a helmet, and life jacket. These items are required for safety of the participants and reducing risk of injury or incident.

Vessel: This program uses the Coronado 15 (C-15) sailboat. This boat’s cockpit is 5.7' wide at the beam (widest part of the hull) with 8.5’ of usable length. For our programs typically 3 - 4 people are placed in each boat. In order to sail this vessel it will require maneuvering around the boom during tacking & gybing, which involves kneeling in the center cockpit and being aware of moving parts.

Transportation: Transportation is not provided for this activity. All participants will meet at the Humboldt Bay Aquatic Center, located at 921 Waterfront Drive, Eureka CA

Facility: The Humboldt Bay Aquatic Center is equipped with an ADA compliant front door and an elevator. The facility has restrooms and locker rooms with showers. Please note if you would like to use a locker, the lockers are not equipped with locks but you are welcome to bring your own. There is a boat ramp that leads to our floating dock which changes grade based on the tide. All other walkways around the facility are flat and paved.
