Prepare for the unexpected with this engaging, hands-on introduction to wilderness medicine. If you like to take hikes into the wilderness or remote areas, work at wilderness camps, enjoy adventurous activities, or are interested in learning about emergency medicine, this course is for you. This two day course covers the basics of emergency care with an emphasis on extended care situations.

This course is great for people of all experience levels, and is best suited for those who recreate outdoors or are majoring in programs like Forestry, Wildlife, Outdoor Recreation, and Fisheries degrees. You'll learn the Patient Assessment System, how to provide effective first aid treatments for injuries and illnesses common in the outdoors, and how to make appropriate evacuation decisions. A Wilderness First Aid certification card is awarded upon completion of the class.

In order to recertify a Wilderness First Responder through this WFA course, students must have a current WFR certification from NOLS. Students with a current WFR certification through another agency (SOLO, WMA, WPT, etc.) will need to recertify using one of the specific WFR Recertification courses. Please check your WFR certification closely. You may find the recertification rules for NOLS at this website: https://www.nols.edu/en/wilderness-medicine/courses/recertify/.

CPR is not included in the WFA as there are too many topics to cover in the two days of the course.

For more information about this class, please see the resources on the NOLS website.

If you cancel or withdraw from a course greater than or equal to 30 days prior to the course start date, Outdoor Adventures will retain a $50.00 administrative fee. The remainder of tuition collected will be refunded. Tuition is non-refundable for those withdrawing within 30 days of the course start date. All course registrations are transferable.
