Sneaker Recycling

Recycle Your Sneakers With Us!

See below for drop off locations, participation guidelines and other information

Did you know?

  • In the US, at least 200 million pairs of shoes and sneakers end up in landfills each year
  • Shoes in landfills can take 30-40 years to decompose, all the while emitting harmful chemicals into the soil and air
  • More than 600 million people worldwide don't even own a pair of shoes

Recycling and reusing keeps sneakers out of landfills, reduces resource consumption and supports a healthy circular economy!

How does the program work?
  • WRRAP is working with GotSneakers, a sneaker recycling company. WRRAP collects the recycled sneakers on campus, ships and ships them off to GotSneakers.
  • GotSneakers recirculates the sneakers in secondhand markets or recycles the athletic footwear depending on condition. Recycling includes grinding the sneakers to create new products.
  • Depending on the type and condition, WRRAP receives compensation. Any funds raised through this program go to support WRRAP's waste reduction and education mission.
What should I do with my old shoes and sandals that are not accepted?
  • If you have non-athletic footwear that you would like to recycle, we recommend finding a local charity, homeless shelter, or other organization that will accept non-athletic footwear.
If I still have questions, who do I contact?
