Faculty, Leadership Studies
Rich Maloy has been teaching in the Leadership Studies program since 2015. Before this, he served in the United States Coast Guard for 20 years, and retired in 2014 with the rank of commander. His most recent assignments included Chief of Training at the largest West Coast training command. Other Coast Guard assignments included San Juan, Puerto Rico; Alameda, California; Los Angeles, California; and Washington, DC.
Rich has a bachelor's degree in psychology, with a minor in history, from California State University, San Marcos, and a master's degree in education from San Diego State University. He has completed all the coursework for a doctoral degree in educational leadership at UC Davis. However, rather than pursuing the doctorate dissertation, Rich switched his focus and completed a Secondary Teaching Credential in social sciences at Sonoma State University.
In addition to teaching for the HSU Leadership Studies Program, Rich now teaches Government, Economics, and Advancement via Individual Achievement (AVID) at Elsie Allen High School (EAHS) in Santa Rosa, California. He is also the AVID Program coordinator for the school.
