Craig Nathanson

Faculty, Leadership Studies

Dr. Craig Nathanson is an educator, author, speaker, and coach for mid-life development. He has been a faculty member in Leadership Studies at Humboldt State University since 2015.

Dr. Nathanson has been teaching online graduate and undergraduate programs since 2001 at several universities in North America and Europe. He is also a visiting lecturer in Vietnam in partnership with Solvay Brussels School of Economics, Brussels, Belgium. Additionally, Dr. Nathanson is an adjunct faculty for the University Of San Francisco, Johnson and Wales University, San Francisco State University, and coordinator for the HR certificate programs as well as the certificate programs in professional sustainable skills and humanistic leadership at Sonoma State University.

Dr. Nathanson is a visiting lecturer in China and Vietnam in partnership with The Asia Center at Benedictine University. He has been teaching workshops and classes in Vietnam and China since 2008.

Additionally, Dr. Nathanson is an honorary lecturer at the University of Liverpool Online,  and the Lincoln International Business school in England.

Dr. Nathanson has a Ph.D. in human and organizational systems and a master's degree in human development and telecommunications management. He worked for over 20 years in various senior management positions in U.S. Fortune 500 companies. He has written and published seven books on personal and mid-life development and management, including The Best Manager: Getting Better Results Through People. His book Joyful Work in the Second Half of Life: The Five Stages accumulates 20 years of research in the intersection of work and mid-life. Additionally, Dr. Nathanson co-authored a parenting book with his wife Natasha, Everybody Needs a Bearhug: Kids' Advice for Their Parents, 365 Days a Year.

Two of Dr. Nathanson's books have been translated and published in Vietnamese, and are available in Vietnam: How to Reach Your Goals in Work and Life and The Best Manager, both published by Saigon Books in Vietnam. 

Additionally, Dr. Nathanson was one of the original founding members of Pandesic, the joint venture of Intel-Sap, as one of the first e-commerce companies, and a vice-president of People PC, a joint venture with Ford Motor Company. 

His current research focus is on humanistic leadership, systems thinking, joyful work, and sustainable professional skills. Dr. Nathanson developed and led a thriving online community at drcraignathanson.com, which combines his work on humanistic leadership and joyful work.

Dr. Nathanson lives in Petaluma, California, with his family.
