Chris Hopper

Director of Development, Leadership Studies

Dr. Chris Hopper has served in a variety of administrative positions at Humboldt State University/Cal Poly Humboldt since he arrived in 1980. Most recently he was the department chair of the Department of Kinesiology and Recreation Administration, and is a tenured professor of kinesiology. He has also completed administrative assignments as the associate dean for the College of Professional Studies and the dean of Research, Graduate Studies and International Programs.

He has written six books and published his research on children's health and fitness in peer-reviewed journals. He was selected as the Scholar of the Year at Humboldt in 2014-15.

Dr. Hopper has been a successful grant writer to support programs at Cal Poly Humboldt. His current projects include a professional development program in mathematics for K-6 teachers funded by the California Department of Education, and a professional preparation program in adapted physical education funded by the United States Department of Education. He currently serves as a reviewer of grant applications for the National Institutes of Health.
