Credential Programs

Educational Leadership

In order to become a school administrator you will need to obtain a Preliminary Administrative Services credential. Designed for educational professionals currently working full-time in schools, the Educational Leadership Program is offered on weekends with all coursework designed to be completed in one academic year. Upon completion, the candidates in the program will be recommended for a California Administrative Services Credential.

Elementary Education

To become an elementary school teacher you will need a Multiple Subject Credential. The Elementary Education Credential Program at Cal Poly Humboldt is a two-semester course of study starting each Fall semester and concluding after the Spring semester. By completing our 44-unit professional education program, candidates can obtain a Preliminary Multiple Subject Credential from the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing, qualifying them for multiple subject teaching positions, primarily in grades TK-8. 

Secondary Education

To become a middle school or high school teacher you will need a Single Subject Credential. The Secondary Education Credential Program at Cal Poly Humboldt is a two-semester course of study starting each Fall semester and concluding after the Spring semester. By completing our 38-unit professional education program, candidates can obtain a Single Subject Preliminary Credential from the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing, qualifying them for secondary education teaching positions, primarily in grades 7-12.

Special Education

To become a special education teacher in California you need a California Education Specialist Credential. This one-year program will give you a preliminary Mild to Moderate Support Needs Credential that will prepare you to apply for your credential license. You will be prepared to teach special education for kindergarten through adult grades and authorized to teach individuals with learning disabilities, developmental disabilities, health impairments, and serious emotional disturbances.
