Congratulations Kaitlin Reed!
Native American Studies' Kaitlin Reed was one of four faculty to receive the McCrone award last week, which recognizes Humboldt’s junior faculty, acknowledges their potential in their field of research, and encourages their continued achievement.
Kaitlin Reed's recent book, Settler Cannabis: From Gold Rush to Green Rush in Indigenous Northern California was published last year.

2024 Election Dissection: What Happened?

Please join faculty from the Department of Politics and students from the Politics Club, at this timely event, in which we will discuss various aspects of the 2024 election. The main topics we will "dissect" include: who the people were in and of the presidential campaigns, who the voters were, how different forms of media impacted the election, what the substantive issues that mattered (or not) were, and how the election fared internationally.

Join CAHSS for a walking tour and alumni gathering in San Francisco! Led by the San Francisco Art Institute Legacy Foundation, the tour will feature Art + Film Professor Berit Potter as the guest expert. After the walk, there will be an alumni gathering hosted by Dean Jeff Crane.

Thank you to all the CAHSS organizers and participants in Theater of War last month! It was an impactful experience that sparked honest and open discussion, which we hope will continue a culture of critical dialogue on our campus.
Ricardo Paredes
Dance, Music & Theatre
Congratulations to Music Education major and saxophonist, Ricardo Paredes, who has been selected to receive a 2024-25 Presser Foundation Undergraduate Scholar Award. This national award provides $3,000 to recipients in recognition of their outstanding achievements in musical and academic performance, leadership and service, and contributions to building inclusive communities.
Amanda Coorey
Dance, Music & Theatre
Amanda Coorey, a theatre major from Temecula, CA, in her Junior year at CPH, took part in a public presentation of her Scenic Design work at the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival, held in Mesa Arizona on February 11 -15 2025. Amanda's design for the play Here We Are, by Dorothy Parker, was presented before a panel of 6 design faculty from various Colleges and Universities, who praised her work and chose it as a finalist from nearly 150 Design and Technology student submissions. This was Amanda's first Scenic Design - and the first time she publicly presented her work!

Dr. Loren Cannon
Philosophy
Dr. Loren Cannon (Philosophy), was interviewed and quoted in an NPR article entitled Trump's anti-trans effort is an agenda cornerstone with echoes in history by Odette Yousef. The online version of the article was published on February 6th. Additionally, he was interviewed and quoted by French Journalist, Camille Ribot, for her article L’obsession anti-trans de Donald Trump which was published February 19th in the French publication, “La Croix.” Both journalists contacted Dr. Cannon due to his expertise in analyzing the recent politicization of trans persons and the role the current federal administration is taking in targeting this population. Dr. Cannon’s book, “The Politicization of Trans Identity: An Analysis of Backlash, Scapegoating, and Dog-whistling From Obergefell to Bostock,” published in 2022, serves as the basis of his analysis.
'A-t'i Xwee-ghayt-nish: Still, We Live On in Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian’s 2024 Native Cinema Showcase
Directed by Art + Film Professor Dave Jannetta, and produced by Art + Film Lecturer Nicola Waugh, and Tolowa Dee-ni’ Nation Language and Culture Manager, Marva Sii~xuutesna Jones, the film tells the important story of Tolowa language resilience and revival for future generations.
The documentary is one of 12 films screening for free online Nov. 22-29.
