  • represent the student voice and perspective in Idea selection and funding allocations
  • collaborate with professional staff and faculty
  • participate in SHIFT working groups outside of meetings as needed (have included Bylaws updates and SHIFT process improvements)

Students are encouraged to apply in advance of the start of each semester but appointments may be made by Associated Students on a rolling basis depending on vacancy.

Become a Committee Member

As part of the SHIFT committee, students gain the opportunity to familiarize themselves with sustainable campus projects and have a voice representing their peers about which projects should be funded with student fees. Students are encouraged to contribute to discussions and decisions, give feedback on student presentations and ideas, and take on leadership roles as they become available. Student Committee members typically are required to attend one hour of time in Committee meetings per week, and there may be weeks where people spend an additional hour or two reviewing proposals or attending engagement activities as needed.

To become a student voting member, complete the following steps:

  • Look through AS committee list (look for SHIFT or HEIF in the list of Committees) to understand whether there are open seats
  • Fill out a committee application through the AS council and specify "SHIFT (or HEIF) COMMITTEE"
  • Schedule an interview with the President of the AS council
  • Look for an AS council meeting that you are able to attend following your interview to gain council approval
  • Once approved by the council, you can attend the SHIFT meetings as a voting member on SHIFT decisions
