Find Funding
For help identifying funding opportunities, we encourage you to connect with a Research Development Support Coordinator, Kumi Nakadate at Kumiye.Nakadate@humboldt.edu, or Cara Peters at Cara.Peters@humboldt.edu. They can provide training on how to use Pivot, our grant database, or assist you with a personalized funding search.
Remember that most grant opportunities are available on a regular (annual, biannual, semi-annual, etc.) basis. If a deadline has passed, your Pre-Award Specialist will be happy to contact the funder to inquire when/if the next round of funding will be available. You should keep a list of potential grants and grant deadlines handy so you can develop a research plan.
Funding Sources:
- Engagement Hub - The one-stop-shop to access and search for internal funding opportunities within the Humboldt campus community. When departments or divisions advertise internal calls for funding, mini-grants, or awards, it can often be challenging to know where to look. Engagement Hub acts as one central repository for internally funded small grants, awards, stipends, etc.
- CSU Office of Research - Research, scholarship and creative activity touch every part of the California State University — enhancing learning and preparing students for the jobs of the future. The breadth and depth of this work spans 23 campuses through shared expertise, facilities and resources.
- California Grants Portal - A statewide portal that allows California agencies to post and update funding opportunities, enabling users to search all state grants in one place.
- Humboldt Area Foundation - A great resource for grants and scholarships that are available in the local Humboldt/Northern California area.
- Coast Central Community Investment Program - Provides grants to support work that improves the quality of life in Humboldt, Del Norte and Trinity counties.
- Grants.gov - This is the application submission site for most Federal awards; check your funding agencies submission requirements
- National Endowment for the Humanities - Supports research, education, preservation, and public programs in the humanities through competitive grants and fellowships.
- National Science Foundation - Provides grants that drive scientific discovery, technological innovation, and the development of a diverse and skilled STEM workforce.
- National Endowment for the Arts - The largest national funder of the arts and arts education, dedicated to advancing arts participation and practice.
- Pivot - This search tool combines the most comprehensive, editorially maintained database of external funding opportunities worth an estimated $44 billion, with a unique database of 3 million pre-populated scholar profiles. Contact Kumi Nakadate at Kumiye.Nakadate@humboldt.edu, or Cara Peters at Cara.Peters@humboldt.edu for assistance in maintaining your profile and funding search results.
