Portrait of Hallie Lepphaille

Hallie Lepphaille, 2020

Thesis:

I serve as the primary point of contact for students within the Liberal Studies Elementary Education (LSEE) program at Humboldt State University. I am responsible for academic advising of current and prospective LSEE credential candidates. Part of this work focuses on recruitment, orientation, and retention of undergraduate students into LSEE. My role as the Academic Advisor and Fieldwork Coordinator includes working closely with Program Leaders, School of Education Faculty, fieldwork supervisors, and local Humboldt County elementary teachers to support students throughout their tenure in the program. My education in the Applied English MA program and the experiences I gained in student support as a Graduate Teaching Associate prepared me to approach advising from a student-centered stance. My advising strategies are informed, at every level, by the dynamics of power and privilege both within the university and beyond. Every day, I tap the skills and knowledge that I gained in the Applied English MA program at HSU to help me to more fully support the diverse body of students in the LSEE program and to push myself to continually grow and learn so that I can be best attuned to the complexities of each individual.
