Get Involved

The Department of Communication fosters an inclusive community where you’ll have the opportunity to learn and grow with your peers and instructors.

Communication Club

The Communication Club is a student run organization promoting the Communication department and the student interests in the department. In addition to the organization's officers, the club elects student representatives to the department's Executive Committee who attend the weekly faculty meetings and each has a vote equal to that of any other member of the committee.

Intercollegiate Speech & Debate

With the help of coaches you will create and revise presentations so you can successfully participate and improve. Most members of the Intercollegiate Speech & Debate team travel to other schools to compete in three types of events: public speaking events, oral interpretation events, and debate

Peer Tutoring

Tutors work one-on-one with students from those classes who want help learning the concepts, studying for exams, or preparing speaking assignments. Tutoring is located in the Telonicher House Squad Room (RM 112)

Lambda Pi Eta

Lambda Pi Eta is a national honorary society for Communication majors. Candidates for membership are nominated by Communication faculty. To be eligible for membership, a student must have completed 60 units, have a minimum cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 for all courses taken, be in the upper 35% of their academic class, have a GPA for all Speech Communication courses of at least 3.25, have completed 12 units of Speech Communication courses, and currently be enrolled as a full-time student. Students should display commitment to the field of Communication, and exhibit high standards of personal and professional character.

Undergraduate Instructional Assistants

Undergraduate Instructional Assistants are advanced students who assist in the instruction of a Communication course under the supervision of the course instructor. Depending on who their supervising instructor is, UIAs may help design the course, deliver lectures, and grade assignments. Being a UIA helps you demonstrate your ability to act in a leadership role while you learn to supervise others.
