Biology professor awarded $498,615.04 to support paid summer internships for PreMed students

Dr. Jianmin Zhong was awarded a California Department of Health award of $498,615.04 for 5 years to support paid summer internships for PreMed students. The award will provide paid summer internship opportunities to 10 historically underrepresented students per year for five years, starting summer 2023. Internship placements will be designed to provide students with broad exposure to healthcare specialties while developing professional skills and a deeper understanding of health challenges facing rural communities. Students will rotate between 10 sites for ten weeks in the summer with health professionals from a range of professions, including clerical and administrative staff, geriatric care practitioners, nurses, physicians, physician assistants, psychologists, and others.
