May 10, 2023

Hello and happy Wednesday.  We are at that really busy time of the semester (I certainly don’t have to tell you that) where that final push is on to close out the semester. Thank you so much for all that you are doing to support the success of our students.

2023 Spring Commencement Ceremonies

Commencement is this Saturday, May 13, 2023, in Redwood Bowl starting with the College of Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences ceremony at 9:00 am followed by the College of Natural Resources & Sciences ceremony at 12:00 pm and the College of Professional Studies ceremony at 3:00 pm. The on-campus ceremonies will be live-streamed in English and Spanish. There will be links on humboldt.edu on the day of the event. A video recording will be available online after the ceremony. More detailed information about the commencement ceremonies including our first-ever regional ceremony, receptions, and a list of the cultural celebrations can be found here

AmeriCorps CSU STEM VISTA Positions

Please pass along this information to any potential candidates (upcoming and recent grads or alums seeking meaningful work experience). Candidates can submit an AmeriCorps application here by June 9th, 2023 to be considered and can contact vista@calstate.edu for additional information. For questions about Cal Poly Humboldt’s specific position, contact Loren.Collins@humboldt.edu

Summer 2023 and Fall 2023 Schedule Refinement Heads Up

As you all can imagine, schedule planning for this summer and fall has been particularly complex as we seek to accurately predict how many new and returning students will enroll in the coming months. The increased interest in our campus since transitioning to a polytechnic coupled with the addition of several new degree programs has made our historical predictors a bit less certain and therefore it will be necessary to watch enrollment carefully and adjust our course offerings a bit more than we are accustomed to. For the Summer 2023 schedule, May 16, 2023, is the deadline to finalize the first five-week and eight-week summer session course offerings. Your deans, associate deans, and/or department chairs will work in partnership with faculty to finalize the schedule. Thank you in advance for your willingness to engage in this process.

As the Spring 2023 semester comes to a close I again want to thank you for your unique contributions to making Cal Poly Humboldt a special place for our students to learn, for our faculty and staff to inspire, and for our community to grow. I will again take a summer hiatus from twice-weekly Provost communications and will begin again this August. Have a terrific summer and I hope you each get to do something you love with those that you love.

In gratitude.
