Provost Communication, Wednesday, March 6, 2024

March 6, 2024

Hello everyone and happy Wednesday. I hope you are having a great week leading up to Spring Break. For those of you who will be enjoying some well-earned time off over spring break, I hope that it’s a great opportunity to refresh and recharge. For those of you who will be on campus and at work (with me) next week, thanks for all you do regularly to support the success of our campus and I hope you too have some time off planned in the near future.

Welcome to New Staff to Academic Affairs

Periodically, I like to acknowledge new staff that have joined the Division of Academic Affairs. Some of our new folx include:

Lydia Evers, College Resource Analyst, College of Natural Resources and Sciences (CNRS)

Sarah Sanders, Post-Award Grant Analyst, Sponsored Program Foundation (SPF)

Mailani Souza, Specialized Funding Analyst, (SPF)

If you have a new staff member in your area, please let us know by contacting OAAVP@humboldt.edu so that we may include their name in a future Provost Communication.

Center for Teaching & Learning Teaching Excellence Symposium: Tuesday, April 9, 2024

This year’s symposium works to embrace those examples of teaching excellence that are so pervasive throughout Cal Poly Humboldt as well as look at the innovative ways educators are thinking through the challenges and opportunities that characterize higher education. We do this to map our journeys and chart a clear path forward; a path that empowers our students and our work as educators and colleagues. Please join us on Tuesday, April 9th in the Library in the Author’s Hall to engage with your colleagues as we collectively celebrate teaching excellence and innovation. A call for proposals and registration links here.

You’re invited to attend the University Resources and Planning Committee (URPC)

As I mentioned in last week’s Provost Communication The URPC is working in partnership with university leadership to be informed about divisional/area priorities as well as reduction planning in each area so that the URPC can provide the most informed budget recommendation in support of broad university priorities. We kick off our series of divisional updates this Friday with the following presentations:

  • 1:00 pm-1:30 pm- President’s office (Chief of Staff Mark Johnson)
  • 1:30 pm-2:00 pm- Advancement (Vice President Frank Whitlatch)
  • 2:00 pm-2:30 pm- Athletics (Executive Director Nick Pettit)
  • 2:30 pm-3 pm- University Wide- (Executive Director Amber Blakeslee)

Guests are encouraged to join the meeting virtually and can do so by clicking the following link here

Meeting ID: 874 4696 4458

Passcode: 133045

The presentations will be brief and high level consisting of 15 minutes for presentation of information and 15 minutes for questions. The opportunity to ask questions will first be presented to sitting committee members of the URPC and will be posted in the chat function of the Zoom meeting. After committee members have an opportunity to ask questions, questions from guests will be asked and answered as time allows. The chat function will be enabled only to ask questions and will go directly to the co-chairs of the URPC who will pose the questions on behalf of committee members and guests in hopes that we can be as expedient as possible. We are looking forward to seeing you on Zoom and appreciate your engagement.

Celebrate Pi Day!

Please join us in celebrating Pi Day in the Library on Thursday, 3/14 at 1:59 pm in the Scholars Lab, 3rd floor. Join us for treats and trivia.

That’s it for today. I will pause Provost Communications next week for Spring Break and will resume on Monday, March 18, 2024.

Thanks for all that you do.
