Thanks to Jennifer Ortega for organizing the Green Lunches and the successful one that occurred last week in which Morgan King talked about Cal Poly Humboldt's new Ride Match Service. Faculty and Staff Green Lunchtimes are one way to help faculty and staff move toward sustainability. It is an opportunity to step outside of the boundaries of your discipline and department, talk to one another, share ideas and insights and see our campus moving towards a shared vision. Check out the upcoming webinar: 44 Feet: Vulnerabilities, Opportunities, and Strategies for Managing Risk from Sea-Level Rise to Humboldt Bay’s Spent Nuclear Fuel Site. on Thursday February 23, 2023 at 5:30pm. Jennifer Marlow of Environmental Science & Management here at Cal Poly Humboldt will be joined by Alexander Brown to share their joint research on potential impact scenarios and community-driven strategic response. Additionally, upcoming on March 1, 2023 check out a symposium on Rural & Tribal Community Resilience: Strategies for Action. This event is part of the smoke, air, fire, and energy (SAFE) project — a collaboration of the Blue Lake Rancheria Tribe, the Karuk Tribe, and the Schatz Energy Research Center. The program includes speaker and panel discussions of clean energy, cultural fire, and air quality; microgrid tours and a solar training workshop; and collaborative group conversations. This symposium is free and open to the public. It will be held in the Blue Lake Rancheria’s Sapphire Palace on March 1, 2023 from 10 am to 4:30 pm, and will include a complimentary lunch, beverages, and snacks. LAND BACK: Artwork of Ka’ila Farrell-Smith at the Goudi'ni Gallery
Ka'ila Farrell-Smith, Klamath Modoc visual artist, writer, and activist based in Modoc, OR will be presenting a solo exhibition called LAND BACK at the Goudi'ni Gallery beginning on Thursday, March 23, 2023 with an opening reception at 4:30 pm. There will be an artist talk as well as other engagement opportunities. Her studio work is informed by her activist practices, and recently has been involved in stopping pipelines in the Pacific Northwest. The Goudi’ni Gallery is located in BSS 104, at the corner of Union and 17th Street.
