Good morning and happy Monday. I hope you all had a wonderful weekend.
WSCUC Reaccreditation Process Reminder
Cal Poly Humboldt will be preparing for the reaffirmation of its accreditation by the WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC) throughout the 2024-2025 academic year.
The university WSCUC Steering Committee invites you to participate in this important process by providing feedback and engaging in discussions that will inform the institutional report that we will submit in June 2025. The committee has begun hosting a series of virtual town halls where committee members provide an overview of the accreditation process and descriptions of the four essays that will constitute most of our report’s content. Please consider attending the final town hall meeting focused on Creating an Institution Committed to Quality Assurance and Improvement, on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, from 3-3:50 pm

Theater of War Productions Coming to Cal Poly Humboldt: Thursday, October 24, 2024 at 7:00 pm
The College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences is working with students, faculty, staff and the administration to bring Theater of War to our campus on Thursday, October 24, 2024 at 7:00 pm in the Van Duzer Theatre. Theater of War Productions is a New York City Based organization that works with leading film, theater, and television actors to present dramatic readings of seminal plays—from classical Greek tragedies to modern and contemporary works—followed by town hall-style discussions designed to confront social issues by drawing out raw and personal reactions to themes highlighted in the plays. The guided discussions underscore how the plays resonate with contemporary audiences and invites audience members to share their perspectives and experiences, and helps to break down stigmas, foster empathy, compassion, and a deeper understanding of complex issues.
The production, Hector, Andromache, and the Death of Astyanax includes scenes from The Iliad and The Trojan Women to help frame dialogue about the human cost of war, centered on the suffering of children and civilians. Featuring performances by David Denman (The Office, Mare of Easttown), Nyasha Hatendi (Alex Rider, Casual), Marjolaine Goldsmith (Company Manager, Theater of War Productions), and a chorus of students, faculty, and staff members.
The College is hosting this event to foster dialogue about trauma and conflict, how we manage and respond to them and to help our community grow in its understanding of different perspectives in relation to the events on campus in late spring semester 2024, the ongoing conflict in Gaza, and the impacts of war globally. While it will be uncomfortable, the Theater of War experience has the potential to strengthen our relationships, broaden our empathy, and make us more resilient as a community.
This event is free and open to the Cal Poly Humboldt community and is co-sponsored by the President’s Office, the Office of Academic Affairs, and the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences.
Please Check Your Spam Folders for CDRC Student Accommodation Memorandums
If you believe you have students in your class who have been approved for academic accommodations from the Campus Disability Resource Center, please check your spam folders. It has come to our attention that there is a quirk when students forward their accommodation memorandums to faculty. The forwarded emails from students are being flagged and are delivered to spam folders. The cause of the problem has been identified, and a patch has been implemented. Students registered with the CDRC are being encouraged to connect with their faculty to ensure their accommodation memos have been received.
Achievements and Acknowledgements in Sustainability
Cal Poly Humboldt is given a shout out in a few different places in the newly published 2024 Sustainable Campus Index by the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE). We are noted as having high performance with green investments ( #5 overall), being a top performer for Master's Institutions (#4 overall), and for being one of the first institutions to achieve a Plastic Reduction Partner Certification. Awesome recognition on a topic that is core to our values and identity.
Have a great Monday.
