Need computing power for your research?
Are you looking for a powerful hypercluster of CPUs/GPUs to process the data from your research? The National Research Platform (NRP) is a game-changer for researchers and Cal Poly Humboldt. It offers access to cutting-edge computing power and GPU resources at no cost, designed to supercharge your research capabilities. With NRP, you can execute complex simulations, analyze vast datasets, and accelerate your projects without worrying about the financial burden.
On Wednesday, September 20, 2023, Dr. Tom DeFanti (UC San Diego Super Computer Research scientist, Distinguished Professor Emeritus Computer Science @ University of Illinois, Co-Pi National Research Platform) will be visiting to talk to researchers about the NRP. If interested please contact Ravi Chalasani in ITS (rkc20@humboldt.edu) to schedule an appointment.
Ungrading Faculty Learning Community
In this Faculty Learning Community (FLC,) the group will dive deeper into Ungrading—an approach that has many different ways of evaluating students’ learning that removes the anxiety of a grade for students, hence putting the focus on the learning. The focus of this cross-disciplinary FLC is to explore and reflect on a variety of ungrading strategies and practices that help to remove barriers for students by focusing on learning, rather than performance only. The goal is to engage in discovery by trying new approaches, sharing with colleagues, and creating opportunities for ongoing critical reflection in our practice. The question that will guide us through our ungrading journey in this FLC is: How might ungrading change the way you teach and change the ways in which your students learn? This FLC framework will explore the practical, as well as the journey into ungrading. Please fill out this Ungrading Registration Form no later than Friday, September 22, 2023. Notifications of acceptance will be sent no later than September 29, 2023.
Hosted by the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) and facilitated by Amy Conley, Education, and Tani Sebro, Politics, this multidisciplinary cohort will meet for seven, 1-hour sessions during Fall 2023: Fridays from 11:00 am - 12 pm beginning Friday, October 6, 2023 (Session dates: 10/6 in-person, 10/13 Zoom, 11/20 Zoom, 10/27 Zoom, 11/3 Zoom, 11/17 Zoom, 12/1 in-person).
CSU Tuition increase information
If you were following the Board of Trustees Meeting last week you learned that the board approved a tuition increase for the CSU system. There has been broad discussion on campus on this topic and various questions about what this may mean for students. The information reflected here has some valuable information as a starting point.
I hope everyone has a great week.
