October 23, 2023

Hello everyone,

I hope you had a nice weekend. Although the weather is getting colder, the sun was out and it was a beautiful weekend. I saw many of you out and about enjoying the fall weather.

Shout Out

I wanted to acknowledge Kacie Flynn, Executive Director of the Sponsored Program Foundation (SPF), and the staff that hosted the Chief Research Officers from across the CSU system late last week. It was an opportunity to show off Humboldt.

Call for Faculty and Staff Participation in Fall Commencement: Friday, December 15, 2023

One of the most meaningful parts of commencement for our graduates is celebrating this accomplishment with their faculty. As a reminder, tenured/tenure track faculty are to indicate to their dean, a commitment to participating in at least one commencement ceremony each academic year (fall, spring, and/or regional ceremony). All faculty regardless of contract type are invited to participate.

Faculty and staff participating in this fall’s processional and who will be seated in the faculty/staff section during the Commencement ceremony must register their participation by Friday, November 17, 2023. Please use this link to register.

Those needing to order regalia can do so with Herff Jones. Regalia rentals are available at no cost to faculty and staff. The deadline to order regalia to be received in time for the event is Wednesday, November 1, 2023. More information will be sent by your College Coordinator regarding when and where to show up on the day of the event.

Staff who would like to provide on-the-ground support at Commencement should make arrangements with their supervisor and submit their interest and availability by November 17, 2023. Duties such as greeting, ushering, handing out programs, providing ADA shuttle and wheelchair support, providing parking and traffic support, supporting the graduate and faculty/staff line-up area, etc. are needed. Information regarding shifts and assignments will be shared closer to the event. Please use this link to register to provide support.

The most up-to-date information is posted on the Commencement website. Email grad@humboldt.edu with any questions and thank you so much for your contributions to making our graduates' experience incredible.
