Academic Programs Welcomes New University Scheduling and Support Analyst
At long last, we are pleased to announce that Tim Thomas has joined the Academic Programs team as the new University Scheduling and Support Analyst after an extensive search for the position. Tim’s main priority will be to lead, support and coordinate the academic and centralized course scheduling of our university, ensuring efficient and effective use of student and faculty time, campus space and facilities. Welcome, Tim!
I want to also take a moment to thank Cameron Govier for her work in managing the schedule for the last several months on an interim basis. We are so appreciative.
liminal bodies and spaces Opening Reception, Thursday, November 7, 4:30-6 pm
This art exhibition by artists Linh Dao and Amanda Stojanov explores the ongoing tension and fluidity within both personal and societal concepts of identity. The artists share their experience of femme and otherwise marked bodies as they adjust to the process of assimilation and the erosion of their languages, history, and cultures. New technologies are used in conjunction with expressive typography to interrogate marginalized realities, including augmented reality, virtual reality, projections, performance, and interactive experiences.
The opening reception for this exhibit will take place on Thursday, November 7, 2024 from 4:30-6pm at the Reese Bullen Gallery. Visiting artists Linh Dao and Amanda Stojanov, will be giving an artist talk during the reception at 5 pm. liminal bodies and space runs through Saturday December 14, 2024.
McCrone Promising Faculty Scholars & Graduate Fellowship Award Reception

The McCrone Award recognizes Humboldt’s junior faculty, acknowledges their potential in their field of research, and encourages their continued achievement. In addition, the Alistair and Judith McCrone Graduate Fellowship Award is given to one Cal Poly Humboldt graduate student to support their research.
The 2024 Awardees are:
Dr. Tawanda Gara (Environmental Science & Management) - “Observing Natural Resources from Space”
Dr. Debbie Gonzalez (Social Work) - “Creating engaging classrooms: Through gamification, critical thinking and a sense of community”
Dr. Kaitlin Reed (Native American Studies) - “Settler Cannabis: From Gold Rush to Green Rush in Indigenous Northern California”
Matias Solorzano (Graduate Student, Psychology) - “Unapologetically Autistic: Academia and Me”
Black Excellence Speaker #3
Several areas within Cal Poly Humboldt have collaborated to bring you the Black Excellence Speaker Series. The third speaker is the result of a collaboration between the Umoja Center, the Department of Child Development & Family Relationships, Human Resources, Enrollment Management & Student Success, and the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (ODEI). Dr. Deborah Johnson will be joining us and delivering her keynote address “Watching and Listening to Mama: Maternal Messages to College Women of Color at the Intersection of Race and Gender” on Thursday, November 14, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. --10:20 a.m. in the Great Hall.
The Policy and Advocacy class of Child Development, taught by Professor Jennifer Mager, is hosting the keynote. All students, faculty, staff, and community members are welcome.
In addition, Dr. Johnson will lead a professional development workshop titled "Can We Talk?” Developing a Racial Literacy Practice for Health and Wellbeing on Thursday, November 14, 2024, from 3:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. in NHE 106. This professional development workshop will focus on enhancing faculty and staff's ability to recognize, address, and resolve racially stressful encounters, using frameworks from Dr. Howard C. Stevenson's work on racial literacy and racial stress reduction.
