November 18, 2024

Hello everyone and happy Monday. I hope you had a nice weekend and were able to get outside a little bit in between the rain showers. It looks like a particularly wet week ahead. As always, during this time of the semester, a lot is going on.

SPF Needs to Hear From You! Please Take this Survey

The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs (SPF) would greatly appreciate your participation in a survey to better understand the faculty and staff experience working with SPF and grants in general. They are interested in learning more about the SPF services you find helpful and what you may find challenging about the grant process. Responses from this survey will be used to improve SPF services. The survey should take about 10 minutes and you can participate by clicking on this link.

2024 Election Dissection: What Happened?: Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2024, from 5:00-6:30 pm

Please join faculty from the Department of Politics and students from the Politics Club for this timely event to discuss various aspects of the 2024 election on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, from 5:00 pm-6:30 pm in the Behavioral and Social Sciences (BSS) building.  The main topics include: who the people were in and of the presidential campaigns, who the voters were, how different forms of media impacted the election, what the substantive issues that mattered (or not) were, and how the election fared internationally. They hope to use this event as a way to provide informed ways of breaking down this historic and most unusual election, and in turn, inspire Cal Poly Humboldt students, faculty, and students to find their own ways to meaningfully engage with politics at all levels.

Become a Social Science Research and Instruction Council Humboldt Representative

Interested in connecting with social science faculty across the CSU? Looking for a service opportunity that focuses on providing quantitative social science data for research and instruction? Cal Poly Humboldt is seeking faculty representatives for the CSU Social Science Research and Instruction Council (SSRIC). Founded in 1971, the Council is the oldest affinity group in the California State University system. With representatives from each of the CSU campuses, the Council is dedicated to assisting students and faculty in their learning, teaching, and research by:

  • Providing a forum for sharing information about social science data and computer products;

  • Initiating and conducting training programs;

  • Recommending computerized social science projects in the CSU curriculum;

  • Encouraging the collection and distribution of social science data and computer-related instructional and research materials; and

  • Advising CSU administrators on policies related to providing quantitative social science data for research and instruction.

This service opportunity requires attending two virtual meetings and one hybrid meeting each academic year. Funding is available for representatives to attend the annual SSRIC Social Science Student Symposium (S4). Please contact Carly Marino at carly.marino@humboldt.edu to learn more about serving as an SSRIC representative. For more information about SSRIC, visit https://www.ssric.org/.

I hope you have a great Monday.

Jenn
