May 6, 2024

Hello everyone,

I hope you are hanging in there. Much gratitude to each of you as we navigate through this challenging time. I am appreciative of your efforts to support our students’ success particularly during a time of frequently changing information and a lot of frustration. I am grateful for the time I have been able to spend with department chairs, leadership teams, students, staff, administrators, faculty, alumni, and community members last week as we work toward positive movement forward. While things are far from perfect, I appreciate each of you. Thank you.

ODEI Listening Circle

The Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (ODEI) invites staff and faculty to join them for a listening circle focused on our most recent campus events this Wednesday, May 8 from 12 pm - 1 pm on Zoom. This event will provide a safe space for open dialogue and deep listening, where each voice is respected and valued. Please note this is not an action-oriented space, yet your participation is vital in shaping the future of our campus community. You are invited to come together to listen, learn, and collaborate towards a more equitable and welcoming environment. Please join us using this Zoom link.

Commencement Information

As you have hopefully seen, the University will hold Commencement ceremonies at three off-campus locations on Saturday, May 11, 2024. They will take place concurrently in the Sapphire Palace at the Blue Lake Casino, the Eureka Theater, and the Eureka High School Auditorium. Each of the venues has the capacity to accommodate all of the registered graduates’ anticipated guests. Additionally, the Regionally Commencement is still planned for Tuesday, May 14, 2024 at 2:00 pm at the Saban Theatre in Beverly Hills, CA. For more information, please visit here. It goes without saying that Commencement is very important to our graduates and their families so I am appreciative of your flexibility and commitment to making these ceremonies a success for our graduates.

Student Resources

  • Dining: The J, College Creek Marketplace, and the Cupboard will continue to operate during their regular business hours. Residents with meal plans will maintain access to these locations for their dining needs. Student residents should refer to the email that was sent to them.
  • Testing Center: Limited Testing Center access for students taking finals will start today by appointment only from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Email testing@humboldt.edu to request an appointment and the check-in process through the Parking Kiosk will be communicated when you make your appointment. There will be a shuttle escort available to take students to and from the Testing Center.

Campus Access

  • Request brief Access to your office or workspace to retrieve necessary items (including Regalia): To gain access, employees must schedule an appointment with the Information Technology Services department in advance by sending an email to help@humboldt.edu including the following information: Name, office location, contact phone number, what equipment/items you would like to pick up, and availability timeframe between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

  • Request regular access to my workspace to perform critical duties that cannot be done remotely:
    • These requests should be sent to your Dean and Associate Dean, or supervisor for evaluation. Please provide them with the following information so that your request can be considered: Name, workspace location, contact phone number, proposed access schedule, and justification for why this work cannot be performed remotely. Please note this access remains limited for now.
    • Please note that if you are approved for ongoing access there are additional steps you need to take each day to “check-in” on campus. You were sent these instructions upon being approved for regular access to campus. If you are unsure of these directions, please contact your direct supervisor.

There is additional information and resources that many of you have requested which is not included above that I am working with campus partners to gather. You may receive additional resources throughout the week as I receive this information. Please also feel free to reach out to me directly at OAAVP@humboldt.edu if you have additional needs.

Thank you and I hope your day goes well.

Take good care.

Jenn
