March 4, 2024
Hello, and happy Monday. I hope you had a wonderful weekend.
30th Annual Social Justice Summit - March 4-8, 2024
Please join us for The Social Justice Summit which is a transformative platform that seeks to question and redefine societal narratives. It's dedicated to amplifying the voices and experiences of BIPOC, queer, disabled, and other intersectional communities, creating a safe and empathetic space for meaningful dialogue.
This year, we introduce "Cultivating Connections and Community" as our central theme. This theme is rooted in the belief that building strong, supportive networks is key to empowering historically marginalized groups. It recognizes that community bonds are crucial for fostering resilience, shared understanding, and collective growth. By focusing on cultivating these connections, the Summit aims to highlight the importance of solidarity and community in the journey towards equity and inclusion.
A complete schedule of events is available here and on the attached flyer.
ERFSA-Humboldt Grant Program for Tenure-track Faculty, Lecturers, and Staff
The Humboldt-Emeritus and Retired Faculty and Staff Association (ERFSA) invites grant applications to help tenure-track faculty, lecturers, and staff with less than 5 years of employment at Cal Poly Humboldt seeking to expand their professional qualifications.
Proposals must relate to teaching effectiveness, scholarly or creative activity, and/or service to the University, profession, or the community. The grant awards are intended to supplement other assistance, including in-kind (self-funded) support. Visit https://erfsa.humboldt.edu/grant-program for more information and to download the application.
Applications are due March 28, 2024, no later than 3 p.m. PST. Application materials should be sent electronically in a single PDF to senate@humboldt.edu. The Humboldt-ERFSA Executive Committee will notify you by May 1, 2024, of the status of your grant proposal.
Advising Survey Opportunity
Please help spread the word! Today, the Excellence in Academic Advising survey opens live for three weeks from March 4 -22, 2024. This survey is part of an intensive self-study coordinated through the National Academic Advising Association and supported by the CSU CO. Cal Poly Humboldt is part of a cohort of eight CSU campuses participating in the review.
All degree-seeking undergraduates will receive invitations to take the survey today with reminders to follow. In addition, you will see the attached flyer across the campus, find the advising teams tabling, and they will be sending tailored emails next week for departments and faculty advisors to send their students as part of our effort to garner as many responses as possible. The hope is, that if you are willing, tailored invites to your majors and advisees to participate in the survey will help get a more accurate picture of where we can better support advising across the campus.
Thank you in advance for your partnership in this effort. A special thanks to the many members of the steering committee, self-study committees, and especially our faculty advising fellows - Maria Iturbide and Brandice Gonzalez-Guerra.
Have a great Monday.
Jenn
