Good morning, everyone, and happy Monday. I hope you are easing into your Monday, albeit with a little less sleep due to the time change. However, more daylight and sunshine just might be worth it!
Well Done! Peer Instruction in Mathematics Publication
Bori Mazzag, CNRS Associate Dean, Arianna Thobaben, Supplemental Instruction Coordinator and Lecturer in Education and Su Karl, Learning Center Director, co-authored a publication with colleagues from multiple CSU campuses on Peer Instruction in Mathematics: A Survey of the California State University. Their article was published in PRIMUS (Problems, Resources, and Issues in Mathematics Undergraduate Studies), a leading journal about teaching collegiate mathematics. The paper arose from a colloquium series in Spring 2021 for the CSU Math Council, a consortium representing all Departments of Mathematics and Statistics in the California State University System. You can find the publication here.
Coming Soon: A Powerful New Academic Advising Tool!
Advisors, exciting changes are ahead! A new advising system is on the way to enhance how we support students.
Why the change?
Extensive campus input—including the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) Excellence in Advising Self-Study, faculty advising fellows and working group, and advisor feedback—highlighted the need for a robust tool to improve advising impact. Slate for Advising will support holistic advising, boost student engagement, and streamline your workflow.
What to expect:
A streamlined advising dashboard with rosters and student details
Integrated appointment scheduling and communication tools
Personal and shared advising notes
The ability to see and release holds
The ability to make student referrals and set early alerts for at-risk students
Pilot testing begins in March/April! Stay tuned for updates as we prepare for training and rollout.
