April 10, 2023

Hello everyone and happy Monday. I wanted to provide an update acknowledging the tremendous amount of work accomplished by one of our polytechnic subgroups- Team Domino. Team Domino is a subgroup of our Facilities and Infrastructure working group. Its primary purpose this past academic year has been to serve as a project management group, responsible for the coordination and communication of actions planned to deliver Fall 2023 programs as it relates to space and equipment needs. Space and equipment needs for existing programs may be supported by the planning and logistic efforts as well. Please note, this is just the beginning and much more is in the works.

Much gratitude to the entire facilities team, team domino group, and all of the user groups for this incredible progress. Much of this information below was provided by Erika Willor, project manager. A special thanks to Mike Fisher, AVP of Facilities Management, and Eric Riggs, Dean of CNRS, who have provided critical leadership.

Updates include:

  • Chemistry Lab Science A 571& 567:  Working with Mott Labs on supplying four metal drawer cabinet bases to add to existing lab stations. Mott Labs will provide a quote and confirmation of lead times very soon so that the order can be placed as soon as possible.  Lab tops will not be replaced this summer due to lead time for epoxy resin tops.
  • Physics Lab Science A 374:  The request for proposal (RFP) for demolition and abatement has been uploaded for review. Working with Mott Lab for table extensions and new table tops to get those ordered as soon as possible and design documents are in the works.
  • Geospatial Science Founders Hall (FH) 106:  Layout finalized per attached pdf. Two ADA stations will be added.  A 5' table will be replaced with a 6' table and the new computers will be placed on top of tables to provide space needed for the two additional computers required for Fall 2023.
  • Masters of Engineering Behavioral & Social Sciences (BSS) 207: Layout finalized per attached pdf and sent to user group for approval.  Once approval is received, furniture will be purchased and work requests will be placed for Trades, Telecommunications and Network Services (TNS), and Information Technology Services (ITS) scope of work.
  • Applied Fire Science Natural Resources (NR) 222 & NR 223: Fire lab storage will be temporarily relocated to NR 207 and graduate students will be in a modular building at the Campus Events Field (CEF) for Fall 2023. New growth chamber to be installed this summer will require some minimal work by Trades.  Work has been coordinated with Trades.
  • Software Engineering BSS 315: Layout finalized per attached pdf and sent to user group for approval.  Once approval is received furniture can be purchased and work requests placed for Trades, TNS, and ITs scope of work.
  • Thermodynamics FR 103:  Space requires no improvements. Will schedule a meeting with the user group before the end of the month to confirm space is adequate for Fall 2023.
  • Makerspace FR 213 & Modular: FR 213 woodshop to be improved and Modular to be converted to a 3D printer lab. Working with the user group to finalize the attached demo and layout plans.
  • Swetman Makerspace:  Demo and Abatement scope documents are being finalized and will be posted to Gordian today. The entire interior of Swetman is to be demolished back to the exterior building studs and down to the concrete slab.
  • Mechatronics GH 114:  Space has been reconfigured. Will schedule a meeting with the user group before the end of the month to confirm no additional work is required.
  • Sci C 102 A & B: Rooms will be combined this summer to make space for the new Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM) to be installed in August. Scope and layout are still being developed. Work will be contracted out through the job order contract (JOC) process.
  • NR 207: Room to be improved during the fall.  A meeting with the user group is scheduled for next week.
  • Library roof equipment - Location of equipment has been determined. Scott Harris, project manager for the library roofing project, is working with the engineering department on having permanent roof mounts constructed with the roofing project.

Have a terrific day.
