HEIF Film- XHF027
This project provided funding for student created films to raise awareness of HEIF. In 2019, a short film about HEIF’s Idea Paper process was published on youtube. Funds were spent on student stipends and other resources for the film's crew.
Greenspace Management- XHF038
This project converted several "green spaces"- or areas predominantly covered in grass- to areas that would require less water and fuel for maintenance. The Library Oak Lawn, the Van Matre Lawns, and the Harry Griffith Hall (HGH) Courtyard Lawns were all converted, and water usage for these areas is estimated to have decreased from 40,900 gallons per year to 5,539 gallons per year- now representing only 13% of the previous usage.Read more here: Final Report
NAS Food Sovereignty Lab XPL265
The Food Sovereignty Lab is an interdisciplinary, collaborative effort that is student-designed and community-informed to create a cultural workspace for students to explore the theme of Indigenous Food Sovereignty at Cal Poly Humboldt. The Food Sovereignty Lab will renovate and locate in BSS 168, and sit adjacent to the Native Fourm and Goudin'i Gallery in the Behavioral and Social Sciences building.
Support for OhSNAP! Pop Up Thrift
OhSNAP!'s Pop-Up Thrift store takes items donated through donation dash and sells them to students for cheap prices. Funding for this project was used to support student wages and other program needs for the 2022-2023 2023 year.
CCAT Reclamation Station Revamp
The objective of this project was to update and organize the existing CCAT Reclamation Station, a place where students can get free resources (ike upcycled wood), to make it easily accessible, safe, and welcoming for student use. This project will create a space that will increase the availability of reclaimed building materials to the campus and Arcata community. Goals of this project are to increase the feasibility of using reclaimed materials, as well as to increase the ease of use for both donations and users.
Campus Food Forest

OZZI Behavior & Barriers Research
This submitter proposed to bring five OZZI box drop n' go bins across campus to increase the return rate of OZZI boxes. The proposed budget for this project was $15,000. The committee decided after careful consideration and communication with Chartwells and other campus entities to not fund the addition of more OZZI box collection receptacles because the company was concurrently planning a $50k investment in upgrading the OZZI program to include three new box receptacles and to integrate C-Card functionality for tracking OZZI tokens.
Jacoby Creek Forest Carbon Inventory
Image courtesy of the City of Arcata (2017).Cal Poly Humboldt (CPH) has an 888-acre forest in Jacoby Creek which sequesters unknown amounts of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. To quantify this carbon uptake, the “University Forest Carbon Sinks” project proposes to conduct ongoing data collection, inventory, and calculation of carbon stored in trees. When measured according to protocol, carbon sequestration data can be used to offset carbon emissions coming from energy used on campus. This work will be done by experienced field trained student employees.
CCAT Chickens
This project allocated $10,000 to have CCAT raise live chickens on campus. This project's purpose is to allow students at Cal Poly Humboldt have the opportunity to learn about food waste, sustainable agriculture, appropriate technology and livestock care. CCAT will obtain food waste on campus and use it as food for the chickens, then use manure produced to create compost for further agricultural projects.
