Dreamscapes
Dreaming of Utopias and Dystopias
What does a better future look like?
We dream. Individually and collectively, we dream of better worlds in which the grandest of ideals are achieved, and we do so in the context of imaginable times and places. How do you dream? How do you imagine changes in the world beyond your wildest dreams? And now here you are, at an electrifying moment: You have just arrived at university, ready for a new beginning.
Part of what has driven you to higher education is the realization that the challenges facing your community, your country, and our world are not solvable through the status quo. They require new imaginings. Imagine finding yourself surrounded by a new group of friends who are all driven by the same desire to see real change realized. Imagine professors who are hungry to help you think in new ways, and are excited to help you turn your passions into real action.
Welcome to Dreamscapes, one of Cal Poly Humboldt’s Place-Based Learning Communities. If you’re a first-year student interested in social and political change and not already in one of our major-based Place-Based Learning Communities, apply to join Dreamscapes!
At Humboldt,
we’re committed to a sustainable world.

The Specialized Experiences that Make up Dreamscapes
As a first-time first-year student with an interest in social and political change, you can choose to be a part of this program designed to map out new terrain for social change. Build connections on campus and out in the community. You’ll explore the problems of today from the perspective that radical change is possible! In Dreamscapes, you will reimagine the future through the power of a mindset that is both engaged with and unbounded by the past. You will be in classes led by dynamic and passionate professors in Sociology, Native American Studies, Ethnic Studies, Political Science, History, and Religious Studies.
More than anything, it’s a community for dreaming: a space where the possible is constantly being reimagined! Imagine that.
