Creando Raíces is an exciting learning community at Cal Poly Humboldt dedicated to exploring community organizing, education, and Ethnic Studies. You'll get the chance to participate in activities that highlight all the various issues related to Ethnic Studies and connect with local community organizations dedicated to social justice.

This program is for students majoring in Critical Race, Gender & Sexuality Studies, Kinesiology, Social Work, and Psychology. As part of this first-year program, you’ll participate in activities that shed light on complex issues with a critical lens and become an active participant of transformation in your community and career, right from the start of your academic journey.

What is CouRaGeouS Cuentos?

Part of being in Creando Raices means you have the opportunity to either publish in the journal or support the editing and celebration of your cohort's volume. Become a published author in your first year of college!

This journal is a publication by the Department of Critical Race, Gender & Sexuality Studies (CRGS) at Cal Poly Humboldt with submissions of creative writing works by students in the Ethnic Studies 107: Chican@ / Latin@ Lives and Ethnic Studies 480: Growing Up Chicana/Latino classes.

Guided Enrollment Fall Semester

Fall Courses: Critical Race, Gender, & Sexuality Studies majors

Students in Creando Raíces will have the opportunity to enroll in:

ES 107 (Chican@/Latinx Lives)
COMM 100, ENGL 102, or ENGL 104 (Fundamentals of Speech or Composition and Rhetoric)

These courses are selected in collaboration with the Creando Raíces faculty team and are relevant to Creando Raíces specific programming.

Critical Race, Gender, & Sexuality Studies majors will also have the opportunity to enroll in the following courses:

CRGS 101 (Peace & Justice Studies)
ES 200 (Comparative Histories of African American and Latinx Americans in the United States)

Fall Courses: Kinesiology majors

Students in Creando Raíces will have the opportunity to enroll in:

Critical Race, Gender, & Sexuality Studies majors will also have the opportunity to enroll in the following courses:

ES 105 (Introduction to U.S. Ethnic Studies)

Students will work with their advisor to fill out the rest of their spring schedule.
