About Tarney
Why did you choose this program?
To inspire and guide me on my aviator and possibly astronaut route, and inspire me with geography, AND for the incredible Track and Field program (shout to Sarah Ingram and company!).
How did this program prepare you for your job?
Aviators, especially helicopter pilots, use math every single day. From logical analysis to calculating weight and balance, takeoff and landing data, hover aerodynamics and power required vs. power available, math literally keeps us alive and operating. I loved the department, the professors, and the inspiration of math itself, including how it transposes into music.
What did you enjoy most about the program?
Jeff Haag, and all the calculus programs and the physics courses as well! Great minds implanting great thoughts.
What would you say to prospective students who are thinking about applying to this program?
It’s a ride. It is eerie, beautiful, hard work, daunting, and awe-making. The people in this department stick together. It’s a community and it’s fulfilling.
