About Matt
Why did you choose this program?
I wanted to attend a journalism school with a good reputation and approachable instructors, and HSU gave me both.
How did this program prepare you for your job?
I learned basic reporting and ethics principles from people who had been in the industry for years. After a year of journalism classes I felt prepared for a newspaper internship, and after graduation I immediately got a job at a newspaper. I still use the lessons I learned at HSU in my job, more than 20 years later.
What did you enjoy most about the program?
I enjoyed the hands-on experience, especially working on The Lumberjack staff, as well as getting to know instructors I've kept in touch with for more than 20 years.
What would you say to prospective students who are thinking about applying to this program?
Aside from the obvious benefits of attending classes on one of the world's most beautiful campuses, HSU offers small classes taught by journalists who bring real-world experience to the classroom.
