About Kassandra
Why did you choose this program?
I joined the program in the spring of my third year. I fell in love with physics through my own research. After meeting with a few of the professors, I learned about the intimate class sizes and research opportunities and found that I could grow to become a successful physicist at Humboldt State.
How did this program prepare you for your job?
The undergraduate research opportunities helped me get a grasp of what physics looks like outside of a university setting. By going to conferences, networking, and gaining experience through internships (REUs), I was able to find the facets of physics that inspired me, which in my case, are education and academic research.
What did you enjoy most about the program?
I appreciated the small class sizes and availability of the professors. They were transparent and communicative.
What would you say to prospective students who are thinking about applying to this program?
Be sure to understand the commitment. As you move forward toward your degree, course and lab work will consume a lot of your time (in the best and worst ways). You will be spending quite a bit of time with your peers, so comradery is essential. Create a community, speak with your professors, reach out and ask about undergraduate research opportunities. These tools will open doors for you. Manage your time wisely and enjoy the wonders of Humboldt County!
