About John
Why did you choose this program?
I chose International Studies and Spanish becuase I had a passion understanding cultures and countries other than my own and a desire to help the most vulnerable members of the global community.
How did this program prepare you for your job?
This program helped me develop my critical thinking skills, set me on a path to Spanish fluency, and allowed me to get critical academic and professional experience abroad. My International Studies helped me to become a Peace Corps Volunteer which helped set me on a strong professional pathway.
What did you enjoy most about the program?
I enjoyed learning and discussing complex international concepts with my peers and faculty. Much of my current understanding of global issues and public policy stems from my coursework at HSU.
What would you say to prospective students who are thinking about applying to this program?
I would say that they should do it! It's an incredible program. Whether they end up working within the international realm or domestically, it will give them crucial critical thinking and cultural competency skills. Also, if you do join the program, have conversations with Dr. Homles about your professional development. She is very wise and will set you on the right path!
