About Hector

Why did you choose this program?

When I first arrived at HSU my major was Environmental Science with ecological restoration focus. After speaking with Dr. Bolman at the Indian Natural Resources, Science, and Engineering Program my first week of school, I was convinced that RRS was a better option. It provides one with all the tools for restoration (soils, botany, conservation) and, more importantly, range has a high demand for employment with many local, state, and federal agencies.

How did this program prepare you for your job?

As I navigate through my career it is apparent that the HSU range program provided me with extensive technical expertise.

What did you enjoy most about the program?

It was an adventure and a privilege to be able to learn from the environment in Humboldt County. I enjoyed all the field trips that assisted in creating an experience to develop us as professionals.

What would you say to prospective students who are thinking about applying to this program?

As a first-generation Chicano growing up in the inner city of Los Angeles, this program was able to equip me with the skills and opportunity to begin a career as a Rangeland Manager, regardless of not having any prior knowledge of Range.
