About Gabriela

Why did you choose this program?

I chose this program because I felt that the professors and instructors would be very supportive and the rigorous coursework would prepare me well for my career in physics. Humboldt is also very beautiful!

How did this program prepare you for your job?

The Physics Department at HSU was very supportive. The coursework was challenging which helped prepare me for graduate school courses. The Gravity Lab introduced me to physics research which is where I began my journey as an experimentalist. I learned so much from both research opportunities and coursework. I learned how to think critically and solve difficult problems.

What did you enjoy most about the program?

I really enjoyed the lectures and lab. The lectures were engaging and I really felt that the professors wanted me to learn. In the lab, both through research in the Gravity Lab and labs for class, I learned to troubleshoot and solve problems which gave me confidence to begin working in a lab at the graduate level.

What would you say to prospective students who are thinking about applying to this program?

The Physics Department at HSU is incredibly supportive and I would highly recommend it. The coursework and lab experience prepared me well for graduate school. The professors and instructors have your best interest in mind and, if you put in the effort, they will help you succeed.
