About Emily
Why did you choose this program?
I chose Sociology at Humboldt State because I knew I needed a supportive environment. I wanted a rigorous education while also feeling like I could enjoy my life. Humboldt gave me the best of everything: a beautiful place to live, peers that were genuine and fiercely orientated to justice, and the training in my field that would support my goals of graduate work after my bachelor's.
How did this program prepare you for your job?
Sociology at Humboldt was the very best education for me. Professors held me to high academic standards while also championing my efforts and acknowledging my hard work. The professors of Humboldt Sociology modeled for me how a sociology professor could use their brilliance to make the world a better place, one student at a time, and that is something that I strive to do every single day. I learned by watching my professors how to be a kind and compassionate teacher while also imparting the knowledge of sociology.
What did you enjoy most about the program?
The program fostered so much connection with my professors, my peers, and my community. I learned so much more than sociology but I learned a lot of that too! I was so grateful for the advising that the professors gave me, every single professor had an open door and genuinely cared about my success. They treated me as a whole person.
What would you say to prospective students who are thinking about applying to this program?
Do it! Humboldt Sociology is the best place to get your sociology training! This is the place to be and you'll always remember your Lumberjack years!
